The new archaeological discoveries at Pompeii are focused on 13 terracotta statuettes, each measuring around 15 centimeters in height, unveil captivating stories. From human figures to everyday elements like almonds, walnuts, glass pinecones, and clay-modeled rooster heads, these archaeological gems were discovered in an Insula alongside the Domus of Leda and the Swan.

Positioned upright on a horizontal plane, neatly arranged on a shelf lost in the eruption, these statuettes offer a poignant insight into domestic religiosity, preserving traces of ancient rituals within familial spaces.

The Pompeii Archaeological Park suggests that a preliminary comparative analysis hints at references to the myth of Cybele and Attis, symbolizing the changing seasons and the fertility of the earth, possibly integrated into the spring calendar.

However, the discoveries don’t end there. The Park’s statement reveals, ‘During the phase of removing the still-present soil in some rooms of the House of Leda, a finely frescoed room has emerged, featuring 4 rounds with elegantly refined female faces.’ These findings are part of ongoing excavations to secure and unveil new areas. Restoration and consolidation efforts are underway to ensure these treasures can be enjoyed by the public in the future.
