In Evidenza

In Summer 2021, archaeologists investigated the so called “Complesso dei Riti Magici” at the Pompeii‘s Regio II. The main goal was to collect new data and information on the domestic architecture and urban planning of this area of the ancient city, in search of the most ancheint phases of Pompeii itself (Samnites and the Roman Republic)

“The “Pompeian Residential Architecture. An Environmental, Digital, Interdisciplinary Archive Project” (PRAEDIA), started in 2016, is a cooperation between the Parco Archeologico di Pompei, the IMT School for Advanced Studies Lucca – Research Unit LYNX, the Departement of Civilisations and Forms of Knowledge of the University of Pisa and the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV). It has also benefitted from the collaboration with members from the SMART Lab at the Scuola Normale Superiore.”

PRAEDIA aims to contribute to a deeper knowledge of Pompeian housing through an extensive program of multidisciplinary investigations in Pompeii’s Regio II. This neighbourhood played a crucial role in the urban texture of the ancient city, as it is close to a city gate, the amphitheatre, the burial grounds of Porta Nocera, and the main street, Via dell’Abbondanza. In its first phase, research focuses on the so-called Praedia of Iulia Felix, a large complex covering an entire block of the ancient city (Regio II, Insula 4, near the Amphitheatre).
